- Ask the holder of your data to delete the data. If you are not sure who you can ask, you can ask help from an adult such as your parent, your instructor or the customer service of a website. Many websites have a page titled Privacy Police or Privacy Notice that has instructions.
- Explain in your request what data you want deleted and why, or say that you want all your data to be deleted.
- Wait for a response. You will usually receive a response within one month.
- If you do not receive a response within one month or the holder of your data refuses to delete your data, you can contact the Office of the Data Ombudsman. We can help you in certain situations. Our contact details are at the bottom of this page.
Here is an example of a data request that you can send as an email:
‘Hello
My name is Eve Example and I used to play football in Football Club X. I stopped playing football, so please delete all data about me that is no longer needed.
Best regards, Eve Example.’
