Anu Talus continues as Data Protection Ombudsman

On Friday 27 June, the Government appointed Anu Talus, LLM, MA, Data Protection Ombudsman for the next five-year term beginning on 1 November 2025. Talus has been the Data Protection Ombudsman since November 2020.

Before her current position, Talus has worked as Deputy Data Protection Ombudsman, Director of Legislative Affairs at the Ministry of Justice, and Senior EU Specialist. Talus is also Chair of the European Data Protection Board.

“The importance of data protection will keep increasing with the further digitalisation of society and the accelerating pace of technological development, for example in the field of AI. Both national and international cooperation between authorities will play a key role in this changing world”, Talus says.

The Data Protection Ombudsman heads the Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman, which employs approximately 60 experts. The Data Protection Ombudsman is an independent authority that supervises compliance with the legislation on the processing of personal data. The duties of the supervisory authority also include promoting awareness of the rights and obligations related to the processing of personal data and issuing statements on legislative and administrative reforms. The Data Protection Ombudsman cooperates with the data protection authorities of other EU countries.
